Smarter Dev LLC (“we”) operates the Smarter Dev Discord server, its bot and our website, smarter.dev. This policy explains what personal data we collect through them, why, how long we keep it and how to have it deleted.
Data we collect
On Discord
- Your Discord ID and username.
- Messages, reactions and commands you post in the server. We keep records derived from them, such as activity and participation, and the conversations our AI assistant takes part in. We do not archive your messages.
- Moderation records: actions taken on your account, and the earlier text of messages you edit or delete.
On our website
- Account details from the sign-in provider you choose (Discord, GitHub or Google): ID, username, avatar, email address and public profile details.
- Content you create: chats, uploaded files, questions and searches.
- Subscription records if you buy a membership. Card details are held by our payment processor, not by us.
- Your email address or Discord ID if you join a mailing list or waitlist.
Automatically
- IP address with security events, error reports and server logs.
- Records of AI usage: who used it, when, where, what it cost and what it decided. These records do not include message text.
Why we collect it
- To run the Discord server, bot and our website.
- To let the AI assistant take part in conversations and remember the server.
- To moderate the server and keep it safe.
- To sign you in, bill you and send you email you asked for.
- To monitor cost, abuse and errors.
How long we keep it
- Temporary working copies and in-progress results: at most 6 hours.
- Server logs, error reports, security events, rate limits and caches: at most 30 days.
- Sign-in sessions: 30 days after your last visit.
- Account, subscription records, website content and email sign-ups: until you delete them.
- Messages the AI assistant has read: at most 3 hours after the server goes quiet.
- Your Discord ID, username and activity and participation records: until you ask us to delete them.
- Moderation history, usage records and the AI assistant’s memory of the server: indefinitely.
Who else processes your data
- AI providers (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, OpenCode Zen, DigitalOcean and TypeSafe) receive the content sent to AI features, including authors’ Discord IDs.
- Brave receives web searches and Jina receives the addresses of pages read for you.
- DigitalOcean hosts our servers, database and files. Polar processes payments. Resend sends email. Pydantic Logfire receives error reports, traces and security events.
- Discord stores everything posted there.
Each handles what it receives under its own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
You can delete your website chats, questions, searches, email sign-ups and your whole account from Account → Security & Accounts.
For everything else, message an @admin on the Smarter Dev Discord server or email admin@smarter.dev. We confirm you own the Discord account and delete your data within 30 days of your request. From then on the AI assistant ignores your messages and does not respond to you. Other features still process your new messages, and new activity starts new records.
You can also opt out of the AI assistant at any time with the /privacy command in the server. From then on it ignores your messages; it keeps what it already learned until you ask us to delete it.
Data we retain
After a deletion request we keep:
- Moderation history, to keep the server safe.
- The AI assistant’s memory of the server, with you removed from it, so it does not lose what it has learned about the community. You can read what it remembers about the server on its public page.
- Your Discord ID, so the AI assistant keeps ignoring your messages.
- Records of usage, cost and AI decisions, and other members’ transaction histories, with your ID and name removed, though they still show which messages and channels were involved, so our accounts stay accurate and we can audit the AI.
- Messages the bot already posted on Discord, including moderation log posts, which we do not edit.
Your rights
Smarter Dev LLC is responsible for this data; reach us at admin@smarter.dev. You can ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it, by the same route as a deletion request, and we answer within 30 days. Your data is processed in the United States. If you live in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
We update this page when this policy changes and announce it in the server’s privacy channel.
